January 1, 2010

You have probably heard about the couger infestation in Michigan. They're everywhere. Every time I go outside I run into one of those big cats. So finally we had enough. My mom and dad took us to Florida for Christmas vacation and to see our extended family. We saw You-ve and Oye, Omar and all our other 57 cousins, aunts and uncles. It was great fun. And tomorrow we will head home. Back to the cold and snow of Michigan and all those awful cougers.

My Encounter with the Chupacabra
                  by Erik
It happened during the summer. It was a day like today, only a little bit warmer. I was visiting my grandparents at their farm which was located on Stinking Creek. Suddenly I heard a noise by the garbage cans. I went to investigate and standing there I saw the strangest looking animal you can imagine. It looked like a hairless dog with big teeth and a tongue hanging out of its mouth. I could smell its terrible breath. Instead of standing on four legs it stood on two legs like a man, a very ugly man. I was so scared I didn't know what to do. I tried to run, but my feet wouldn't move. It stopped eating garbage long enough to look at me and start to growl. I thought I was going to be the creature's lunch. Then, off in the distance, I heard the strangest sound I ever heard. The animal heard it too. It cocked its head to one side in the direction of the noise and began running through the forest toward the sound. It ran on all four legs and seemed to be in a hurry. I don't know what that noise was, but I think it might have been Mrs. Chupacabra calling her husband home for dinner. My grandpa said it was probably a coyote, but I said "I don't think so. How do you explain it walking on two legs?" My grandpa couldn't answer that question.

Whatever it was, I hope I never see it again!

On his recent trip to Venice, Florida, Erik enjoyed floating down the canals in his shiny new gondola. Erik likes his pizza with pineapple.
