Varmit HuntingA varmint has been getting grandpa's birds. It got two baby peafowls, a young guinea
hen, and a chicken. We don't know what kind of varmint it is. Kevin thinks it's the black fox we've seen a few
times hanging around. Josh says it's a coyote or a racoon. I think it's a chupacabra. Grandpa went out and bought
a Have-a-Heart trap. He thinks we'll catch the varmint. I asked him if he caught the thing if I could poke a stick through
it. He said "no." He told me we need to respect all life. We will take it far away and release it in the wilderness
where it can make a new life.

Floating in the PondWe were visiting at our grandparents and thinking about going fishing when my brother saw a log floating in the pond with
two turtles resting on it. Not remembering a log there I went closer for a better look. It wasn't a log! It was
a deer. She must have gone to drink and got stuck in the mud and drowned. My brothers and I spent the next hour trying
to get it out of the pond. We rigged up a sort of grappling hook and took turns tossing it at the animal in hope of pulling
it to shore. Finally we got it and could see it was a female. Then we saw its baby on the shore running back and forth and
crying for it's mother. We tried to catch the baby but whenever we got close it ran away into the forest.
Later that morning Grandpa got his tractor and we burried the deer in the woods. It was a sad morning.

My Encounter with the Chupacabra
by Erik
It happened during the summer. It was a day like today, only a little bit warmer. I was visiting my grandparents
at their farm which was located on Stinking Creek. Suddenly I heard a noise by the garbage cans. I went to investigate
and standing there I saw the strangest looking animal you can imagine. It looked like a hairless dog with big teeth and a
tongue hanging out of its mouth. I could smell its terrible breath. Instead of standing on four legs it stood on two
legs like a man, a very ugly man. I was so scared I didn't know what to do. I tried to run, but my feet wouldn't move.
It stopped eating garbage long enough to look at me and start to growl. I thought I was going to be the creature's lunch.
Then, off in the distance, I heard the strangest sound I ever heard. The animal heard it too. It cocked its head to one
side in the direction of the noise and began running through the forest toward the sound. It ran on all four legs and seemed
to be in a hurry. I don't know what that noise was, but I think it might have been Mrs. Chupacabra calling her husband home
for dinner. My grandpa said it was probably a coyote, but I said "I don't think so. How do you explain it walking
on two legs?" My grandpa couldn't answer that question.
Whatever it was, I hope I never see it again!
